Talk about body parts and give little tickles. Scrunch up the arms and legs of clothes and peek at your toddler through them. Dylan isn’t really interested in picking out his own clothes, yet, but if yours is that’s a great way to hand over some choices. Use this everyday activity as a chance to connect and have fun. This is something that may not come until closer to 3 and of course your two year old will not be able to tell time. However you can still teach them a basic sense of how much time is remaining or when time is over. Your 2 year old may be able to count to 10 from memory and maybe even higher with more practice.

Be sure to have your child look at both uppercase and lowercase letters when learning. Of course they may not have perfected the skill yet, but the only way a child will learn these new skills is by doing it by themselves. You can help them to complete the task once they’ve already tried it on their own. They’ll still benefit most from board books where they can easily turn the pages, but may start exploring books with thinner pages.
When it comes to sensory activities for 2 year olds, I really do like to keep things simple. Honestly, we’ve really overhyped the whole “sensory activity” concept. However, my girls both love to draw and color. It has been a go-to activity for years in our home. You can either buy blocks brand new or pick them up second-hand.

Closer to age three I sometimes fill up the kitchen sink with warm water and dishwashing liquid. I give them some plastic cups and bowls and let them have fun “washing” them. Snuggling up to read a book with my toddler will forever be one of my favorite parenting moments.

So, get colourful balls for your little one and let him/her play. Stack toys or any simple things from your home in a row. As your child gets good at this activity, you can give complex commands or instructions like, “Simon says, pull your right ear and then your left ear“. You can also try this activity with your child, without involving anyone. One child will be ‘Simon’, who will give commands to other children, to follow. Introduces children to new concepts and things, right from textures, colours, numbers, etc.
Our daughter maybe wasn’t done with her painting or wasn’t done playing with the tower she just built. Just because it’s lunchtime, doesn’t mean her desire to keep going stops. Doctor or dentist – Play doctor or dentist with a doll or stuffed animal. Put on bandages, wrap up a broken arm or leg, and examine the “wound”. Hide and seek- and remember, hide and seek doesn’t only have to be done with people (though it does give you a chance to hide from your needy toddler for a bit!). You can play hide and seek with plastic eggs, toys, really anything around the house. I love to incorporate this with learning, too. You can hide things of a certain color if you’re practicing colors or you can hide letter flashcards if your child is starting to learn letters. Channel the energy of your two-year-old in the right direction with the help of these learning activities for 2-year-olds.
Select a few easy opposites, like sad- happy, and have your kid act them out. You can also draw different coloured circles and cut corresponding coloured paper, to develop colour recognition in your kid. Draw two sets of same items, like fruits or vegetables, and have your kid match them.
